It's about one month since I launched this blog and I'm glad with the result so far. This blog lead me to discover several other interesting health blogs, such as Dietriffic and Healthbolt. I met several interesting people in the community and got to witness the launch of Health Ranker, the new social media site which focuses mainly on health news.
So many things have happened in one month. But my blog still looks rather empty. There's only about 15 articles and I don't have much else to offer besides that. Yet, I've actually spent quite a few hours working on it. Blogging has proven to be a lot more time consuming than I thought! This has gave me a lot of respect for other health bloggers, like Rob from the Former Fat Guy or Israel at Fat Man Unleashed. They have been around for quite some time now and have accomplished great things already. Just visit their weblogs and you'll see what I mean.
One reason why I've spent a lot of time working on this blog is the CMS (content management system) I chose. Unlike most bloggers who use WordPress (a CMS especially made for blogging), I chose Joomla. Joomla focuses more on managing static content. Blogs on the other hand, are dynamic. Transforming this Joomla platform to look more like a blog took me several hours. I'm quite satisfied with the result, but it's not done yet. Tools like tagging and pinging, for example, are not yet working.
Another time consuming aspect of blogging has been the writing. For some people writing is like a natural thing. For me though, it's a lot of work. English is not my native language. I'm from the tiny country Belgium where we mainly speak Dutch. To make my articles somewhat readable, I have to rewrite my sentences often and frequently check for spelling / grammer mistakes. While I think the result is somewhat decent, a native English could easily think this blog was written by a kid. Ugh!

Future
So about the future. I'm not 100% sure what I want to do with this blog. I like to write and learn about nutrition, weight loss and other health related topics, but I would also like to spend more time actually maintaining a healthy lifestyle myself.
I used to exercise about 4-5 times a week and I loved it. For the past few months I've been sitting on my a$$. As a result I feel rather puffy and very low on energy. I've decided to make a commitment and start my exercising routine again. To make this possible I will cut significantly in my blogging time, limiting my posts to about 1 or 2 per week.
My next post will focus on fish oil supplements. They contain a lot of omega 3 and are very beneficial for the health. I've read a lot about them, but I haven't really used any fish oil capsules myself. Because I'm considering to start including fish oil in my diet, I figure it would be good to do some basic research first. When I've done that I will summarize my conclusions in a few posts. One for the benefits, then another for the dangers, ... the usual stuff !
Till then I wish you all a good health,
Nico
